Tips About Dogs
Heartworm prevention year round protects dogs from heartworms (contracted through mosquitoes) and several intestinal parasites that can be found in the environment. We have several options for monthly prevention.
Some parasites can be harmful to humans as well, so it is important to do yearly fecal (stool) exams.
Exams and vaccines should be scheduled annually. Older dogs should be seen at least twice a year for a health check up.
A healthy weight will increase your dog's lifespan. You should always be able to see your dog's waist no matter what breed and you should be able to feel their ribs easily, but not see them.
Water should be easily accessible at all times. This is important for healthy kidney and urinary functions.
Feeding should be done twice a day to help decrease the chance of overfeeding and to help determine if there is any decrease in your dog's appetite.
Rawhides are a great way to keep your dog's teeth healthy. However, we still recommend daily brushing as the best way to prevent dental disease. Take rawhides away from your dog when they get too small and become a choking hazard.
Crates are good to keep your dog out of harm when you're not home, but should NEVER be used as a punishment.
