Tips About Cats
Heartworm and flea prevention year round is highly recommended. Cats are susceptible to heartworm disease from mosquitoes and there is NO treatment for this disease in cats. We recommend Revolution as a heartworm and flea prevention for cats.
Exams and vaccines should be scheduled annually, even on indoor cats. Older cats should be seen twice a year for a health check up.
To help prevent litter box mishaps, have one litter box per cat plus one extra litter box.
If your cat stops using the litter box, it may be a sign of an urinary tract infection. Make an appointment for your cat to be examined by one of our veterinarians.
Water should be easily accessible at all times.
Cats should be fed twice a day. It is very difficult for cats to loose excess weight and scheduled feedings also make it easier to notice a decrease in your cat's appetite.
To help determine if your cat is at a healthy weight, you should be able to feel your cat's ribs easily, but not see them.
Exercise is important for a cat. Use a laser pointer or feather toy at least once a day. Yarn and strings can be dangerous if the cat plays with them unattended. The yarn or string could get caught in the intestines and have to be surgically removed.
